Biased Article Review

PURPOSE:
To criticize Sheryl Sandberg about the 2016 Facebook fiasco and convince readers about her evil yet genius manipulation in the business world.

DEVICES:
Connotative Diction:
Sandberg is referenced as "a vicious one" which gives the reader the impression she is an evil, mean, selfish businesswoman. I find this as being a bit sexist because the business world is tough and ruthless. Businessmen and women have to be harsh and cruel sometimes because they have to be in employment in order to be successful. Again, not much information was given on her involvement in the Facebook fiasco.

Product Placement:
He references two Podcasts Inside the Hive and Pivot but gives no information about them besides them being excellent and that they support his point. No direct quotes are included for either podcast. He says, "As Kara Swisher and Scott Galloway noted on a recent episode of their excellent new podcast, Pivot."

Name Dropping
-Bilton (the author) references Beyonce, Tim Cook, Netflix, The New York Times and more big-name companies and celebrities. Some of these are in the first paragraph and are bolded to capture attention. He could be using clickbait to get more readers. Some of these celebrities are included even before Sandberg is mentioned.

Bias Through Source
- Throughout this article, the author references multiple different news sources such as The New York Times, a podcast called Pivot, This Morning, and certain people. However, Bilton does not even use a direct quote from any of these sources. He only mentions these other networks but never uses literary evidence to support his claims. An example of this is when he discusses Sandberg in an interview via telephone on This Morning, "Co-host Norah O’Donnell said that Sandberg had to do the interview by phone because of bad weather."

Bias Through Omission
- All of the news networks and people Bilton mentions are given no background or context of who they are. Sandberg is barely even introduced in this article, the only information about her is that she is the C.O.O of Facebook. It is never even clear of what she did wrong that upset so many people. It is assumed that readers have prior information about her and Facebook.

Bias Through Photos
- The only picture in this article is of Sandberg. In the picture, she is glaring and looks mean. This is to help convince readers Sandberg is cruel.
